Inspiring Stories of Special Education Students | Celebrating Successes

Celebrating the success stories of students is more than just recognizing academic achievements or milestones. True success is not defined by perfect grades, the accumulation of wealth, status, or the approval of society. Instead, it lies in the pursuit of happiness, personal growth, and resilience in the face of adversity. Success is a journey and not a destination. Every student's path to success is unique, but for students with special needs, this journey is often more complex, fraught with challenges such as low self-esteem, self-doubt, and a lack of societal acceptance or avenues to opportunities & means to access them.

At TABIS, however, students have shown extraordinary strength and determination, rising like a phoenix from difficult circumstances. Despite the barriers they face, they have achieved remarkable success in their chosen fields by prioritizing their well-being and happiness. They have been backed and encouraged by their families and teachers & mentors at TABIS. These students remind us that true success is found in the courage to persevere, no matter the obstacles.

Prashant, one of the twin boys born to the Vyas family, embarked on a journey that unfolded at its own pace, distinctly different from his brother's. While his sibling met developmental milestones with ease, Prashant took his time, gradually discovering his unique potential. Both brothers began their education at a renowned school in South Mumbai, but due to the lack of adequate support for his needs, Prashant transitioned to TABIS in Junior School. From the moment he joined, Prashant radiated joy. He was bubbly, fun-loving, and always wore a smile, even in the face of mistakes or incomplete tasks. Prashant was a hard worker, always striving to improve. His passion for sports, particularly cricket, was unparalleled. Despite struggling with retention and recall in academic areas, his knowledge of the game was remarkable. There wasn't a match he missed or a record he didn’t know, proving that passion has a way of unlocking our hidden strengths. After completing his Senior Secondary education at TABIS, Prashant took his love for sports to the next level by pursuing a degree in Sports Management at a university abroad, continuing his journey with the same determination and joy he exhibited throughout his school years.

Diljeet Ahuja was a member of the first graduating class of TABIS and served as head boy, embodying qualities of courtesy, wit, and determination. However, his journey with us was not always so seamless. When Diljeet first joined TABIS, he was a bright child, yet plagued by self-doubt due to his struggles with written expression. While his oral communication skills were outstanding, translating his thoughts into written words was a challenge, causing frustration and anger as he navigated a world that prioritized marks and perfect paper presentations. Under the expert guidance of our faculty, Diljeet worked tirelessly to improve his handwriting, letter formations, spelling, and overall paper presentation. Over time, he made peace with the written word and, more importantly, with himself. Yet, even after overcoming this hurdle, Diljeet found himself uncertain about his future. He explored a few career paths before realizing that his true passion lay in food and cooking. This led him to pursue a degree in Hospitality and Hotel Administration at IHM Mumbai (Dadar Catering College), where he passed all semesters with flying colors. Diljeet sought further expertise and went to Canada to study Culinary Management at Algonquin College, Ottawa. He graduated with honors in 2023, all while gaining valuable experience as a part-time line cook during his studies. Today, Diljeet is flourishing as a Sous Chef at a fine dining restaurant and one of the most popular event venues in Ottawa. He has also had the opportunity to work with renowned brands like St. Regis and Fairmont (Château Laurier Ottawa), a testament to his growth, perseverance, and unyielding passion for the culinary arts.

Janice D'Souza and Sabina Jagir, two exceptionally talented young women, left an indelible mark on TABIS. Separated by eight years, these creative prodigies were some of the most gifted students to have graced the halls of our school. Whether it was dance, music, drama, or art, they possessed an innate ability to express themselves beautifully through various creative mediums. Both girls spent about five to six years under our care, and during that time, they flourished as performers and artists. However, beneath their extraordinary performing arts talents, Janice and Sabina faced personal struggles with learning difficulties. These challenges led to periods of self-doubt, isolation, and a lack of confidence in their academic abilities. At TABIS, we pride ourselves on nurturing every student's unique potential. Janice and Sabina were no exceptions. We recognized them not just for their academic performance but also for their creative brilliance. They were given ample opportunities to showcase their talents—from designing the Yearbook magazine cover to starring as lead actors in school plays and taking center stage in dance and musical recitals. Their leadership qualities shone brightly as they both took on the prestigious role of Head Girl during their final year.

Their journeys did not end when they left TABIS. Janice pursued her passion for culinary arts by enrolling in Dadar Catering College and Sophia College. Her love for pastry making led her to complete a 6-month diploma course at the School for European Pastry. She joined The Pink Rosette in 2019 and quickly worked her way up to senior pastry chef and eventually head chef. In March 2023, Janice took a leap of faith and started her entrepreneurial venture, The Nine Jars, alongside two other partners, fulfilling her dream of creating something truly her own. Sabina’s path took her across the world to the United States, where she is currently pursuing Child Psychology while nurturing her passion for painting and drawing. Her journey highlights a beautiful blend of artistic and academic pursuits, as she continues to explore new dimensions of self-expression and care for others.

These are just a few students who have made us proud. They exemplify how perseverance, talent, and a nurturing environment can help overcome any challenges. They are true success stories, and we are incredibly proud of the strong, confident individuals they have become. Their journeys have just begun, and we cannot wait to see all that they will achieve.
