Being a special educator for almost 3 years, I'm often asked about the differences we have in teaching children with special needs .
As we're leaving no stone unturned in providing academic qualifications to children with special needs, I take this opportunity to pen down my ways of connecting to them more.
School is considered the second home. And so should be its environment.
Children tend to open up and interact more with their parents. This approach involves asking questions, giving answers, or having little conversations, which gradually may lead you to their full potential. Maintain a behavior that allows them to open up more with you. This method can pace up the process of finding their interests and develop new ones.
When it comes to educating children with special needs, I always opt for visual training over audible. This keeps children engaged and helps them grasp information faster. I wouldn't recommend eliminating audible ways to teach completely. Your narration might naturally help the children to absorb information. Try experimenting with your teaching methods to figure out the best way.
Give children a break from absorbing too much textual knowledge.
Indulge them in extra-curricular activities like painting, games, debates, etc. Participating in these activities will help children explore their interests, gain confidence and get better at the same.
In the midst of Science and Mathematics, don't forget the playful manner of learning .
Train your children with quizzes, riddles and puzzles. Conduct small educational competitions to arouse excitement and enthusiasm among children. This will further push them to learn faster and prepare for competitive exams in the future.
